Finance 101 George Thomsen

This session will cover financial basics that are essential to the operation of a bookstore or any business. Basics include setting up a proper system for paper work including purchase orders, invoices, statements, daily sales summaries and deposits. Attendee's will also receive a CD with various business form templates which can be customized to their store. Also to be discussed will be billing and ministry purchases.

Learn effective marketing strategies that will take your store to a new level in customer awareness within your church and outside to the community. Learn how to plan a successful event that will have a "WOW" effect on your customers.

marketing within the church to your congregation, small group leaders,
and staff - including building relationships with the staff and church lead-
ers to not only partner with them in equipping the ministries, but also
ideas to market inside the church, but outside the walls of the store.

Are you just getting started or struggling to make your store's inventory work for you? This class may be for you. Common inventory issues that relate to vendor relations, inter-church relations, weekly buying, and special events are among the topics to be discussed.

Financial statements are important documents of which retail managers must have a basic understanding if they are to be able to effectively manage their stores. We will look at the basic structure of these statements and what they tell us about business. We will also look at the effect that manager's everyday decisions have on the financial statements and the performance of a business. We will focus on the critical numbers and learn how to use these statements as a diagnostic tool so that we can make neccessary adjustments.

This informative session will highlight exciting NEW children's products and help you decide which one's are appropriate for your store. We will also discuss creative marketing ideas and how to get your church's children's ministry involved in your children's department.
Big Ideas for Small Church Stores (500 sq. ft. or less) Jackie Johnson

If you have a bookstore that is 500 sq. ft. or smaller, this is the workshop for you. Small church bookstores have their own unique advantages and challenges. In this session, you will learn tips to help you make the most of our limited space and resources.
Loss Prevention Rick Jones

This session will cover what a store can do to prevent theft from occuring
in your store. The best deterrent to theft is a well trained and observant
staff. Great customer service is the #1 prevention to theft. Merchandise
placement and store design can help deter theft in your store. Pick up
tips on what to do when you catch someone shoplifting in your store.

We will cover several of the basics that need to be covered to have a successful store. Whether you have a new store or have been open for awhile, all will find this information helpful. Topics include mission statements, relationships with church staff, and policies and procedures. By attending this class, you will receive samples of mission statements and policies/procedures from other stores.
Managing Your Staff and Volunteers Carl Massa

This session will cover various ways to manage your staff, both paid and volunteer. We will cover such topics as finding and recruiting, interviewing, setting expectations, training, evaluating and motivating. We will look at ways to make your staff feel valued and loved.
